BUILDING YOUNG LEADERS
The Cesar Chavez Service Clubs provides leadership development programs in public schools across San Diego County, building confidence, competence, and a sense of community within young people. Through teaching the ten values Cesar Chavez embodied, and carrying out service projects that benefit local communities, the Clubs inspires students to believe in themselves. These students learn by experience that they can make a difference.
Inspiring young people to believe in themselves and to know that they can make a difference.
CHAVEZ CLUBS LEADERSHIP
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
The leadership of the Chavez Clubs is made up of people who are committed to continuing the legacy and ten values of Cesar Chavez. From the Chavista Congress, to our Board of Directors, to our staff, teamwork truly does help make the dream work. Our 2020-2021 Chavista Congress is made up of five Chavistas who lead the project priorities selected by Club members. Our staff members are mentors, leaders and social justice advocates committed to guiding our Chavistas through their educational journeys. Our Board of Directors are committed community leaders with a passion for education, equity and social justice. And lastly, our founders, Carlos and Linda LeGerrette are two freedom rights workers who fought for justice alongside Cesar Chavez.
WHAT WE DO
Creating Leadership Experiences
Since 2001, the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs have offered exciting and innovative leadership development clubs that are active in many local schools in the San Diego region. The Clubs are built on the ten values of Cesar Chavez and are designed to engage Club members in leadership and community service activities. Students build confidence and are inspired to believe in themselves as they learn through their experiences that they can make a lasting difference.
HOW WE LEAD
Cesar Chavez Values
Service to others, determination, and non-violence are some of the Cesar Chavez Values that guide our Chavistas. The first thing Chavistas learn when becoming club members is how service to others fueled Cesar Chavez in his fight for social and economic justice. Throughout their years as Chavistas, the many community service projects, civic engagements, and leadership meetings they are a part of help them truly understand and embody the values of Cesar.
